About time

Today I saw a great movie called “About time”, and it really got me thinking…

About time

First of all it is about time that I should start writing again, especially since my goal in life is to inspire and share. First of all to my kids, to be their guiding star, but then to anyone that might benefit from what I learn in life as I go along. Shame on me for not giving anything to you for a whole month.

Secondly it is all about time and what you do with it. Life is a gift and our time here is limited. What if your life suddenly ends? Have you accomplished what you should? Are you proud of what you have done with your life? Are you happy? How would it feel to end your life without being happy and grateful? Or if someone else would leave you without you being able to really express your love or affection for them?

It is definitely time to do something about it. Why not start tomorrow? Just begin by thinking about it when you wake up, before getting out of bed. Think about the great things in your life. What can you feel grateful about? Your kids, being loved, having great health, having a great job, having great parents? Whatever it is that comes to your mind you will find new things every time you try it. And for every time you do it, it will make you feel more aware and less worried.

The movie that I saw, About time, was about a guy that could travel back in time and relive things that had happened. But in the end (Spoiler warning!) he realized that it was better to take care of every moment as if it was your last, and to be as present as he could ever be. And that is exactly what we are talking about here. It is so easy to take life and everything around us for granted. Just think about all the marriages that crashes. What do you think is the biggest reason? I think it is that couples take each other for granted and don’t appreciate their partner enough. I myself have that problem a little bit to often and miss to really appreciate my wife for everything she does. It gets to be to much of routine in the everyday life with kids and all their activities so you forget to see, show and tell her that you really appreciate what she does for you and that you still love her despite all the hardship that surrounds us.

As an example I can mention that we just had a great vacation trip to Miami and New York that really was too much for me. I hated all the shopping and the fact that we never slowed down and enjoined being on holiday. And the fact that I got “sun sickness” with fever and headache did not help. My wife was not happy with me and my grouchy attitude. But when we got home and still had vacation together with a few workdays I could really relax and focus on my relations with both the kids and my wife. Everything really improved almost instantly. And all of this just because of me. You can change anything you want. Just put some effort into it.

To start changing now, just change your daily routines.
1, Start by being grateful before you begin your day

2, Exercise to get the energy you need. Start at your level of comfort and feel yourself getting stronger.

3, Write your own little checklists with things to do. You will see your progress and stop pushing things forward. Helps a lot…

4, Be aware and put “screens” away when you are with other people.

5, Appreciate what people do for you and show them affection.

6, Think twice before you get angry, maybe there is a reason for what happens. Maybe you made it happen? And if you can’t control it, make the best you can out of it. Perhaps you can even learn something?

7, Stop for a moment now and then, look around and see the beauty in things and Mother Nature.

8, Sleep regular. If you try falling asleep the same time every day your body will relax, sleep will come easier and you will feel more rested and alert.

Take care, appreciate and think about time :-)

/Peter
